Memphis Athletics Wraps First Student Athlete Job Fair
Apr 12, 2017 | General
MEMPHIS – Twenty five different Memphis-area employers were in the Penny Hardaway Hall of Fame on the University of Memphis campus on Monday night meeting and interviewing Tiger student-athletes for job and internship openings. In all, over 40 juniors and seniors completed the two-part event, which also included a March session on resume reviews, interview tips and networking opportunities with former Memphis student-athletes and current Athletics partners.
In all, the two-hour event offered soon-to-be graduates chances to be in front of employers with openings in finance and banking, health care, hospitality, insurance, law enforcement, logistics, real estate and sales to name a few.
The program, the first of what is Life Skills Coordinator Katie Woodruff hopes to make an annual event, consisted of nine rounds of 'speed interviewing' following an ice breaker event. Members of the M Club Board of Directors were also on hand to network with the student-athletes and assist them in their respective job searches.
The Tiger PAWS (Preparing Athletes for Winning Success) program also assists Memphis student-athletes and teams in connecting with the Memphis community through a variety of community service projects. Sample outreach programs for the Tigers PAWS program were teaming with the Memphis Grizzlies for the Girls' Summit celebrating the 45th anniversary of Title IX, participating at various schools in the Read Across America Day and serving dinners at Ronald McDonald House. For further information on teaming with the Tigers for community service opportunities, contact Woodruff at 901-678-2738.
