Apr 11, 2017 | Women's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – As the regular signing day period is quickly approaching, the University of Memphis women's basketball team has a lot to celebrate as all three of its early period signees had successful senior seasons.
This signing class is ranked as the third best class in the American Athletic Conference behind UConn and Temple and 62nd nationally.
"We are even more excited today than we were in November about Alana, Finess, and Jada joining us as each of them had stellar senior campaigns," said head coach Melissa McFerrin. "Jada and Alana earned First-Team All-State recognition, while Finess was the floor general on her nationally-ranked squad. We are especially excited that each of their high school teams played deep into postseason, which is a program standard for us at Memphis."
Alana Davis led her Cross Creek High School to its best season in school history; a 26-5 overall record and a state semifinal appearance. She finished the season averaging a double-double with 19.6 points and 13.0 rebounds per game as well as 3.8 blocks per game. Her 24 double-doubles as a senior ranked her 21st nationally.
Davis scored at least 30 points on three occasions and her efforts throughout the season placed her as a 4-A South First-Team All-State selection by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.
Finess Dickson helped lead her nationally-ranked Homewood-Flossmoor team to the Class 4A Supersectional. She earned several accolades this season including a Chicago Tribune All-State special mention selection and a Second-Team Daily Southtown All-Area Team selection.
Dickson finished the year averaging 10 points, five assists, and five steals per game.
A Miss Kentucky Basketball finalist, Jada Stinson led her Elizabethtown High School squad to a 28-4 overall record and a Fifth Region Regional Finals appearance. In the game to reach the Regional Finals, Stinson scored a floor-high 30 points against Marion County.
Stinson ended her senior season averaging 18.1 points, 5.9 assists, 4.3 steals, and 4.0 rebounds and was named the Fifth Region Player of the Year at the KHSAA State Tournament. She was also named a Lexington Herald-Leader's First-Team All-State selection and had the opportunity to compete in the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Basketball game.
