Memphis Drops Middle Tennessee Series
Mar 08, 2017 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis dropped the series to Middle Tennessee with an 11-7 game Wednesday night at FedExPark. The Tigers (7-5) will be back in action at home against Southern Illinois for a three game series that runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A five-run fifth inning was too much for the Tigers to overcome. Memphis committed four errors in the game, two coming in the second inning and two in the fourth inning.
Memphis led early, after scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Trent Turner drove in the go-ahead run with a single through the left side.
The Blue Raiders tied it right back up with a two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the third inning. Memphis gifted Middle Tennessee two more runs in the top of the fourth after back-to-back two-out errors in the inning. The five-run inning put the game away at 9-4.
Senior left-handed pitcher Ryan Garner tossed the final two innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out one batter and didn't allow a single base runner.
Zach Schritenthal, Chris Carrier, Brandon Grudzielanek and Trent Turner each had two hits in the game.
Memphis and Southern Illinois will start up the three-game series Friday at 6:30 p.m.
