Women’s Golf Ties for Sixth at Henssler Financial Event

Cabush and Fletcher finish in top 20.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team finished its regular season on the course with five teams ranked in the top 50 in the current women's college golf rankings. The Lady Tigers finished just behind the five ranked foes, tying for sixth in the final round of the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club in Georgia, Tuesday.
Leighann Cabush was the top finishing Lady Tiger thanks to a career-best mark in Monday's second round. Cabush carded an 80 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 14th overall at 221.
Teammate Michaela Fletcher finished a stroke back, still finishing in the top 20, scoring a 78 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 18th. Madison Thomas (78) and Sydney Colwill (77) finished in a tie for 37th overall at 226, while Emily Goldenstein rounded out the team scorers with an 80 on Tuesday, good for a tie for 69th overall at 233.
Senior Andrea Cropper competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 50th overall with an 80 on Tuesday for a 54-hole score of 229.
Number 13 ranked Kent State won the team title with an 876, just one stroke ahead of number 24 Purdue and two ahead of number 35 Texas Tech. Number 27 ranked Illinois finished fourth with an 885 and number 45 Augusta was fifth at 887, four strokes ahead of Maryland and Memphis in the tie for sixth.
Purdue's August Kim and Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong, both ranked in the top 26 in the country, tied for individual medalist honors with a 213. Augusta's Jessica Haigwood finished third at 214 and Troy's Fatima Cano and Texas Tech's Sofia Garcia tied for fourth overall at 215, one under par.
Memphis will now begin preparation for the American Athletic Conference Championships, hosted again this year in Palm Coast, Florida, at the Hammock Beach Golf Club, Apr. 16-18.
