Tigers Complete Sweep of Southern, Win Sixth Consecutive

Memphis finished off the sweep of Southern with a resounding 11-1 win
Memphis used an eight-run sixth inning to blow the game open. The Tigers sent 12 men to the plate and pounded out seven hits in the inning.
Brandon Grudzielanek started things with double down the left field line and Trent Turner was hit by a pitch to put two runners on with no outs. Colton Neel sacrificed the runners into scoring position and then the Tiger bats came alive.
Carlos Williams singled to drive in Grudzielanek, then a hit batter reloaded the bases. Zach Schritenthal singled to right field to drive in two more runs. Chris Carrier slashed another RBI single to keep the inning going.
Andy Bowman provided the big blast though, smashing a three-run home run to right field. Memphis tacked on one more run in the inning after hits by Alec Trela and Turner.
Starting pitcher Connor Alexander was solid, pitching six innings and allowing just one run on six hits with five strikeouts. Tyler Walton and Taylor Bobo combined to pitch a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
Southern designated hitter John Pope, who blasted two home runs on Saturday, was back at it Sunday with another home run in the fourth inning. He finished the weekend with eight total hits.
The Tigers got out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning after starting the frame with four straight singles. A sacrifice fly by Bowman drove in the third and final run of the inning.
Memphis has won five straight weekend series after dropping the opening weekend series to Tennessee. In addition to the Tigers' six-game winning streak they have won nine of the last 11 games.
