Ladd Sets School Record Friday

Track and field claims three titles at Joe Walker Invitational.
RALEIGH, N.C. and OXFORD, Miss. – University of Memphis' Chelsea Ladd set a school record in the women's 10,000 meters to lead the Tigers in action at the 2017 Raleigh Relays late Friday night.
Ladd, a junior, bettered the previous mark by nearly two minutes with a time of 35:31.73. The previous program record was 37:21.51 by Daniele Riendeau in 2006. Ladd placed 20th in Friday's event.
In action at the 2017 Joe Walker Invitational hosted by Ole Miss, the Tigers claimed three titles and posted two other top-three performances. Julian Sanchez-Pinto and Michael Criticos won the men's 5000 meters and men's javelin, respectively, and Ashley Pryke took the women's javelin crown.
Raleigh Relay Highlights
- Junior Chelsea Ladd set the school record in the women's 10,000 meters (35:31.73) in her first time running in the event in her college career.
- Junior Arnica Zitting ran a personal-best 35:36.59 in Friday's 10,000 meters. She cut a minute off her previous best.
Joe Walker Invitational/Day One Highlights
- A week after setting the Icelandic national record in the men's 200 meters, Kolbeinn Gunnarsson nearly did it again. Last week, we ran a 20.96, and on Friday, he followed with a 20.99 in the men's 200 meters. He placed third in Friday's race.
- Antaun Andrews ran a personal-best 22.15 in the men's 200 meters. He placed 26th.
- Juniors Brock Ballard (3:55.42) and James Durkin (4:13.76) both ran personal-bests in the men's 1500 meters. Ballard finished sixth, which was his best career showing in the event. Durkin cut over six seconds off his previous best time (4:19.94).
- Olushola Olojo was third in the men's long jump with a mark of 23-4 (7.11m). The jump was an outdoor personal-best for him.
- Junior Michael Criticos was his second-straight men's javelin title and the ninth of his career. He won Friday's crown with a throw that was over 20 feet better than the runner-up.
- Junior Savannah Smith ran a personal-best 5:04.51 in the women's 1500 meters.
- Ashley Pryke, who set the school record in the women's javelin a week ago, won the event for a second-consecutive week. She took Friday's title with a 161-1 (49.09m) throw, which was over 20 feet better than the event's runner-up. The women's javelin title was the third of her career.
