KANSAS CITY, Mo. - University of Memphis sophomore Dedric Lawson has been named to the All-District First Team, announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Wednesday morning.
This is the second time that Lawson has been named All-District, as he earned a second team honor last season as a freshman.
Lawson was an American Athletic Conference First Team selection, after leading the Conference in rebounds per game (9.9), and leading the team with a 19.2 point per game average. In all, he had 614 points, 317 rebounds, 105 assists, 68 blocked shots, and 41 steals, and became just the second NCAA Division I player since 1992-93 to have seasons of 600+ points, 300+ rebounds, 100+ assists, and 65+ blocked shots.
He made 216-of-469 shots from the field (46.1 percent), and 152-of-205 from the charity stripe (74.1 percent). He was a finalist for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award, and joins Ben Simmons, Frank Kaminsky, Draymond Green, and David West as collegians with 600+ points, 300+ rebounds, and 100+ assists in a season.
Lawson finished the season with 19 double-doubles, and 36 for his career, which stand sixth in each category in the school record books. His 614 points are the third-most by a sophomore in program history, and just outside of the top-10 overall in a season in Memphis history. His 1,135 career points rank 37th in program history through two seasons. His rebounding total is the third-most in a season in American Athletic Conference history.
