MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team has two golfers in the top five and is currently in fourth place as a team at the 3M Augusta Invitational following the first round at Forest Hills Golf Club. Memphis fired an opening round 292 and trails #23 Purdue and #33 Tennessee by just four strokes at the end of the first of three days of competition.
Michaela Fletcher and Madison Thomas are in the top five individuals after Friday's competition. Fletcher carded a 70 in her opening round and Thomas a 71 to find themselves in ties for second and fourth, respectively.
Fletcher birdied three of her first 10 holes to go to -3, then bogeyed 12 to give a stroke back. She again got to -3 with a birdie on the par-three 16th hole but bogeyed 18 to finish at -2.
Thomas had a strong start to her round as well, getting birdies on three of her first six holes to go with one bogey on three to hit the turn at -2. She worked her way to -3 with a birdie on 11, but doubled 12 to move to -1. She bounced back from that set back with another birdie on the 177 yard par-3 16th hole, then bogeyed 17 and finished her day at -1.

After bogeys on 10 and 12, she again held steady at par for the next five holes and birdied 18 to close her day with a 76 (+4).
