Memphis has won three straight weekend series after taking two-of-three from Southern Illinois in dramatic fashion. The Tigers and Salukis played three games separated by one run each and Memphis had walk-off wins in two games.
Freshman shortstop Alec Trela had a great weekend, batting .385 with four RBI and three runs scored. Of his five total hits, three were for extra bases. Trela blasted the Tigers to victory in the series opener with a walk-off home run.
The Memphis pitching staff had its best weekend so far, allowing just five earned runs in 31 total innings pitched. The starting pitching showed big signs of improvement, with Alex Hicks and Connor Alexander both tossing quality starts and Drew Crosby coming up just one out shy of a quality start.
Next weekend Memphis will hit the road for the first series away from FedExPark this year. The Tigers, who start the season with 15-of-16 games at home, will travel to Missouri State March 17-19.
