Men’s Tennis Bounces Back With Sweep of San Diego State, 4-0
Mar 11, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Tigers move to 11-3 on the year.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team (11-3) did not have much time to dwell on its 4-3 loss at Oklahoma State. The Tigers were back on the same courts again on Saturday, defeating San Diego State (5-6), 4-0, in a non-conference match-up.
Memphis started off with the doubles point victory, getting wins at one and two for the early lead. The team of Felix Rauch and Ryan Peniston won their eighth straight doubles match to start the day, 6-1, then the number one pairing of Kai Lemke and Andrew Watson sealed the point with a 6-3 win at one.
Sophomore Chris Patzanovsky then snapped a two-match losing streak with a straight set win at four singles, 6-3, 6-3, to give Memphis an early 2-0 lead. Kai Lemke then picked up his second singles win of the weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at three. Sophomore Felix Rauch then sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win at six singles for the 4-0 sweep. Playing on a neutral site and with a drive back to Memphis facing them, the Tigers abandoned the remaining matches.
Memphis returns home for its first conference match of the season on Wednesday when Temple comes to town for a noon match. The Tigers will then be back on the road again next weekend, playing at Texas Tech, Friday, and at #9 Baylor, Sunday.
