Tigers Head To Big Easy For Clash With Tulane

Memphis is coming off of signature win over ranked USF
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team looks to improve to .500 with a road trip at Tulane Thursday evening. Tip-off against the Green Wave is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN3. The win would make that two victories in a row as Memphis most recently defeated No. 20 USF Sunday evening.

This is the first meeting this season against the Green Wave. Memphis most recently saw Tulane in the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship where the Green Wave downed the Tigers by a score of 70-64. Memphis does have the overall advantage, 24-19, over Tulane and the series is tied 10-10 in New Orleans, La.

The upset Sunday added to Memphis' list of notable wins this season (Vanderbilt, specifically, on Dec. 28, 2016). Memphis started the game on a 7-0 run and ultimately led for over 38 minutes en route to the five-point upset. Cheyenne Creighton led the Tigers with 22 points while Brea Elmore and Taylor Barnes added 17 and 12 points, respectively.

USF never led by anymore than one as Memphis always had an answer for the Bulls. Solid free throw shooting in the final minute of the contest by Breigha Wilder-Cochran kept the game just out of reach. In the last 40 American games for USF, the Bulls have only suffered four non-UConn losses. Memphis owns two of those losses.

In conference play, Brea Elmore continues to lead the Tigers with 14.3 points per game. Elmore leads the squad in made three-pointers with 18 and free throws with 23. With two made threes against USF, Elmore had extended her made three-pointer streak to 15 straight games.

Tulane comes into the Thursday night match-up with a 15-8 overall record and 6-4 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Green Wave most recently fell to Temple at home by a score of 76-50 on February 5. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Tulane is receiving votes.

Prior to falling to the Owls last weekend, Tulane was riding a three-game winning streak with victories over Tulsa, Cincinnati, and Houston. The Green Wave is currently sitting in sole possession of fourth place in the American Athletic Conference.

Offensively, Kolby Morgan leads Tulane with 19.3 points per game. She has already scored 443 points this season and also leads the team with 40 steals. Morgan is a sharp shooter from long-range, making 49 of her 130 attempts. She also leads the team with 5.2 rebounds per game and 68 made free throws.

During conference play, Morgan's scoring average increases to 20.2 points per game. Leslie Vorpahl ranks second on the team with 12.8 ppg.
