Women's Basketball Hosts No. 20 USF On ESPNU Sunday

Tigers returns home for Sunday night televised game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team looks to even the season series with the No. 20 USF Bulls Sunday night contest on ESPNU. Tip-off at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse is slated for 5:30 p.m. This is the second game this season where Memphis has been on ESPNU with the first coming against Temple on New Year's Day.

The Tigers have been able to take a few days off from action with their most recent game coming last Tuesday against SMU. Overall, Memphis is 10-12 and 3-6 in American Athletic Conference play. Â Â

Against SMU, sophomore Milena Bajic recorded a career-high 10 rebounds for the Tigers while Taylor Williams led Memphis with 12 points. Brea Elmore added 11 for the Tigers while posting a career-high seven assists.

Cheyenne Creighton continues to lead the team offensively with 14.2 points per game while Elmore and Williams are averaging 13.4 and 11.7, respectively. With a made three against SMU, Elmore has extended her streak to 14-straight games with a made three-pointer.

The Tigers are coached by Melissa McFerrin who is in her ninth season at the helm of the Memphis program. With the win over UCF on January 28, McFerrin has now won 200 games in her career and 150 games at Memphis.

Last Time Out – USF
This is the second game this season that Memphis has competed against USF. The Bulls previously defeated Memphis in Tampa on January 17 by a 79-49 margin.

Overall, Memphis holds the advantage 13-10 to USF. USF, however, has won eight out of the last nine match-ups. In 2016 at home, the Tigers defeated the then-No. 15 Bulls by a score of 88-87 in overtime.

With an 18-3 overall record and 7-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play, USF enters the Sunday night game ranked No. 20 in both the USA Coaches Poll and the AP Poll. The Bulls are riding a three-game winning streak after suffering a defeat to Louisville on January 22.

On the road, USF is 5-1 overall. The only road loss for USF was at No. 1 UConn on January 10.

Kitija Laksa leads the team offensively with 19.0 points per game. When Memphis played the Bulls earlier this year, the Tigers were able to hold Laksa to just 10 points. Maria Jespersen leads the team in rebounding with 9.3 boards per game. With 14.8 points per game, she is averaging a near double-double.

Jose Fernandez is the head coach of the Bulls. Fernandez celebrated his 300th victory when the Tigers visited Tampa earlier in January.
