Biere, Hosten Leads Tigers Track And Field Friday

Freshman tandem are first, second in men's heptathlon.
CARBONDALE, Ill. – University of Memphis freshmen Lennard Biere and Simon Hosten are first and second, respectively, in the men's heptathlon after first-day action at the 2017 Don DeNoon Invitational Friday. Four of the seven events were held Friday, and the heptathlon concludes with three additional events Saturday.
Biere and Hosten both are competing in their first heptathlon at the collegiate level.
On the women's side, Dorina Baiker had the squad's best finish with a fourth-place performance in the pole vault.
The two-day Don DeNoon Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois, continues Saturday with 21 events. The action starts at 9 a.m. (CT) with the completion of the men's heptathlon. The field events begin at 10 a.m. (CT), with the running events starting at 11 a.m. (CT).

Don DeNoon Invitational/Day One Highlights
- Freshmen Lennard Biere and Simon Hosten are first and second, respectively, in the men's heptathlon after four events. Biere is the leader with 3,158 points, and Hosten second with 3,013 points.
- Biere and Hosten both are over halfway to the program's heptathlon record of 5,445 points set by Luis Hanssler at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
- Biere won three of Friday's four events in the men's heptathlon, placing first in the long jump, high jump and shot put. Hosten took first in the 60m.
- Junior Dorina Baiker had the women's top finish Friday with her fourth-place performance in the pole vault (12-2.75; 3.73m).
- Chardae Greenlee placed fifth in the women's long jump (17-11.5; 5.47m). It was her best finish in the long jump in 2016-17.
- Other top performances on the men's side were Olushola Olojo in the long jump (6th; 23-0.5) and Luke Vaughn in the weight throw (5th; 55-10.5).
