Ryan Peniston Named American Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Junior earns second honor of the season from league office.
MEMPHIS – Junior Ryan Peniston was named the American Athletic Conference men's tennis player of the week after a 4-0 weekend. Peniston picked up a pair of wins at one singles in a pair of 4-3 road wins that helped Memphis climb to number 35 in the ITA college rankings. Peniston also grabbed a pair of wins at number two doubles with teammate Felix Rauch.
This is the second honor of the season from the American for Peniston. The junior was also named the Player of the Month back in October after winning the ITA Ohio Valley Regional singles championship.
Peniston, who was an all-conference honoree in singles play last season, is now 13-6 on the season and is ranked number 122 in the country in the latest ITA singles rankings.
He and his Tiger teammates will return home for a pair of matches this weekend. Memphis will host Jackson State, Friday, at 11 a.m., then will welcome number 18 ranked Cornell, Sunday, also at 11 a.m. at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The team is anticipating playing both matches outdoors.
Admission to all UofM home tennis matches is free.
