First Midweek Test at No. 9 Ole Miss Tuesday at 4 PM

Memphis travels to Oxford to take on the 7-0 Rebels
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis will the road for the first time this season, traveling to Oxford to take on Ole Miss Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Swayze Field. The Tigers and Rebels have met for at least two games a year dating back to 1998.
The game will be the first of 14 scheduled midweek contests for Memphis. Ole Miss played its first midweek game last Tuesday, beating Arkansas State 16-4.
The Rebels won both games between the two teams last season, winning 9-7 in Oxford and 7-0 at AutoZone Park.

• Memphis and No. 9 Ole Miss will meet Tuesday for the first of two scheduled games this season. The second meeting will be at AutoZone Park on March 21. The Rebels won both games between the two teams last season.
• The Tigers last win over Ole Miss was in 2015 at Swayze Field. Memphis pounded out 13 hits en route to a 10-5 win. Zach Schritenthal was 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the game.
• The Rebels are 7-0 with six wins over ranked opponents, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington. In their first midweek game last Tuesday, the Rebels blasted Arkansas state 16-4.
• Memphis swept Illinois State in a three-game series, marking the Tigers first sweep since the second weekend of last season against SIU Edwardsville.
• As part of the sweep of the Redbirds, Memphis rallied from an 11-0 deficit to win 12-11 in extra innings during the second game of the series on Feb. 25. The comeback win is the largest in the Daron Schoenrock era of Memphis baseball.
• The Tiger bullpen had an exceptional weekend against Illinois State, pitching 19 2/3 innings and allowing just four earned runs for a 1.83 ERA. Colton Hathcock recorded two saves during the weekend. Jonathan Bowlan and James Muse each had lengthy scoreless relief outings.
• Memphis hitters took a patient approach throughout the series with Illinois State, working a total of 21 walks during the weekend. The Tigers were also hit by pitch three times. In contrast, the Tigers only took five walks in the series against Tennessee.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Connor Alexander had a bounce-back performance against Illinois State, pitching seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts to earn American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll recognition.
• Memphis had a record-setting opening weekend against Tennessee at FedExPark. The two teams squared off Sunday in front of the largest crowd in FedExPark history of 2,188. The three-game series set another facility record, attracting 4,793 fans throughout the weekend.
• Memphis plays 14 of its first 16 games at FedExPark. The Tigers will play five-of-six weekends at home in non-conference play. In all Memphis will play 34 home games, including two at AutoZone Park.
• Junior left-handed pitcher Drew Crosby was named to the Feb. 20 American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after tossing six solid innings and allowing just one run against Tennessee in his season debut.
• More than 70-percent of the Tigers' innings pitched last season were by freshmen and sophomores and all 10 of those players return this season. This year's pitching staff is rounded out by the addition of four incoming freshmen pitchers and two junior college transfers.
• Five seniors will scatter the Memphis lineup this season. Infielders Andy Bowman, Brandon Grudzielanek, Zach Schritenthal and Trent Turner as well as outfielder Chris Carrier are all expected to make significant contributions. Left-handed pitcher Ryan Garner is the only senior on the Tigers' pitching staff. Memphis has yet to have the services of Grudzielanek this season because of injury.
• Chris Carrier entered the season as an American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference player. He is a career .255 hitter in 121 games played with 67 RBI and 71 runs scored. Carrier started 55 games last season, batting .280 and leading the team with 38 RBI and 45 runs scored. He has yet to really get going this season but of his four hits, three are doubles.
