MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's tennis team (3-4) fell to #17 Ole Miss (9-2) in non-conference play Saturday in Oxford.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 6-0 wins at one and two doubles. Memphis had juggled its doubles lineup, teaming Hanna Sohn with senior Marta Morga at three. At the time the doubles point was decided, that duo was knotted three-all.
The home team then used straight set wins at two, three and four singles to seal the win. Memphis freshman Josephine Cao had taken her first set 6-4, against #115 ranked Alexa Bortles, but with the point decided, the match was abandoned.
Memphis returns home to host Jackson State in its first home match since Jan. 20th on Friday. That is the first of a Memphis/Jackson State doubleheader. The women's teams will follow the men's match on Friday. The men will play at 10 a.m. and the women's teams will play at 1 p.m.
