Lowe, Smith are two of eight newcomers to join program in the fall.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Daija Lowe and Joze Smith, members of the Tigers volleyball signing class, were recently selected to The Commercial Appeal's 2016 All-Metro Team (private schools).
Lowe and Smith, both of whom signed with University of Memphis last November, are two of eight newcomers for the 2017 fall season. The other six newcomers are: Kelsea Bivins, Tia Gleason, Hannah Flowers, Kate Hoerdemann, Alyssa Kronberg and Adjuwa Osborne.
For Lowe, the Commercial Appeal All-Metro Team honor was the first of her career. It is the second-straight year Smith was a Commercial Appeal All-Metro Team pick.
Lowe played her final two seasons of prep volleyball at Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis. As a senior in 2016, the 6-foot-2 outside/right-side hitter served as the Lynx team captain and also earned all-region honors. In 2015, Lowe was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Phenom List.
Smith, a four-year starter at Tipton-Rosemark Academy in Millington, saw action in 285 career sets and had 834 digs, 124 service aces and 1,122 receptions (only 88 errors). The 5-foot-2 libero also earned Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) All-West Division II-A honors in 2015 and 2016.
