Memphis Alumnus Wins Alps Tour Event

SOKHNA, Egypt - Following a strong performance in which he finished fourth at his first Alps Tour event, recent Memphis graduate and men's golf star Lars van Meijel took first place at the Red Sea Little Venice Open, his first professional victory.
van Meijel shot a three-round -13 in the tournament, two strokes ahead of the second place finisher. He shot under par in all three rounds on the par-72 course, starting with an opening round score of 69 (-3) followed by a 66 (-6) and a 68 (-4) for his 203.
He currently leads the Alps Tour in scoring average, averaging 68 strokes per round, and has a tournament-high 36 birdies in six rounds, seven more than the nearest competitor.
Former teammate Thomas Perrot competed in the same event and finished in a tie for seventh overall with a four-under total score. Perrot shot rounds of 68 (-4), 69 (-3), and 75 (+3) over the three rounds.
The next event in the Alps Tour is on March 21 at the Katameya Dunes Classic.
