Men’s Tennis in First Computer Rankings of 2017

Tigers break in at week one of computer rankings at 44.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team (5-2) is on a three-match winning streak and after a 4-1 win on the road at Indiana, have made an appearance in the first computerized Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings this week at number 44. Indiana, the second Big 10 team Memphis has beat this season, is one behind Memphis at number 45. In their first seven matches of the year, Memphis has already faced three teams in the first week of computerized rankings (at #13 Northwestern, #25 Stanford and at #45 Indiana).
There is also a pair of Tigers in the first computerized singles rankings of the season. Andrew Watson leads the team at number 82 in the country, while Ryan Peniston is in at 122 in the singles rankings. Watson is tied for the team lead in singles wins with 13 on the year and is currently 5-0 in dual season singles matches so far this spring. Peniston is 11-6 on the year, including a 2-2 mark at one singles. Freshman Jan Pallares is tied with Watson for the team lead in singles win, carrying a 13-7 mark for the year and a 4-2 mark in dual season singles.
The Tigers are back on the road this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches in the Northeast. Memphis will face Dartmouth, Friday, at 5:30 pm in New Hampshire, then will go to Boston to face Harvard, Sunday, at 1 p.m.
Six of the nine teams in the American Athletic Conference that sponsor men's tennis are in the rankings this week. Tulane leads the lead at #22, while SMU is at #29. USF is also in a #39, Tulsa at #41, the Tigers are 44 and UCF at 48.
