Memphis Track And Field Sets Two More Records Saturday
Feb 11, 2017 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
Tigers establish five school marks over the weekend.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Well, they did it again!
University of Memphis' Davon DeMoss and Martina Rodriguez Sala both broke their own school records in the men's 60m and women's mile, respectively, to highlight Tigers track and field action at Vanderbilt University's Music City Challenge Saturday.
DeMoss, who set the program's 200m record (21.35) Friday, took the men's 60m record in Saturday's action. The sophomore first broke his own school mark in the 60m preliminaries with a time of 6.70. That time surpassed the previous mark of 6.73 which DeMoss tied in the 2015-16 indoor campaign and held with two former Tigers sprinters. Then, in Saturday's 60m finals, the Jackson, Tenn., native ran a faster time of 6.67 to win the event.
For the second-straight week, Rodriguez Sala improved her school record in the women's mile. In Saturday's action, the senior ran a school-record time of 4:44.92. Her time bettered her previous mile time by over four seconds (4:49.00), which she set at last week's prestigious Notre Dame/Meyo Invitational. The Olot, Spain, native set her initial school record of 4:50.79 in the women's mile at the 2016 Vanderbilt Invitational.
