MEMPHIS – The Highland Hundred honored the University of Memphis football team at its yearly banquet, Sunday, at the Hilton in East Memphis.
Members of the senior class grabbed seven of the 13 awards handed out. Anthony Miller received the DeAngelo Williams Most Valuable Player Award while Riley Fergson grabbed the Isaac Bruce Offensive Player of the Year honor. Genard Avery won his second straight John Bramlett Defensive Player of the Year honor while defensive teammate Jonathan Cook was named the Most Improved Defensive Player. Seniors Christian Johnson and Phil Mayhue were named co-recipients of the True Tiger Award.
The evening began with four awards for scout team players, student-athletes who helped prep the Tigers each week throughout the course of the season. Braylon Brown and Chandler Stump won the Glenn Jones Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year Award, while Connor Adair claimed the Glenn Jones Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year Award. Hayden Ferrari rounded out the winners with his Special Teams Scout Team Player of the Year Honor.
Sophomore Tony Pollard added another honor to his long list of post-regular season awards, earning the Joe Allison Special Teams Player of the Year Award.
In addition to Cook's Most Improved Defensive Player Award, a pair of Tiger first-team all-conference linemen grabbed Most Improved Offensive Player honors as Gabe Kuhn and Trevon Tate shared that award.
