David Zalzman and Ben Roberts both named to the second-team
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's soccer players David Zalzman and Ben Roberts have been named Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference as announced by the conference Wednesday morning.
The Tigers also received recognition for earning the AAC Team Academic Excellence Award, which is awarded to the highest team grade-point average in the league.
This is the first time both players have received all-conference recognition. Zalzman has now competed for the Tigers for two seasons while this is Roberts' first season in a Memphis uniform.
Zalzman, a midfielder, led the Tigers in 2017 with seven points on two goals and three assists. In the double-overtime tie on the road at UMKC, Zalzman scored his first collegiate goal on a successful penalty kick in the final minutes of regulation to force overtime. Against UCA on Oct. 18, Zalzman's goal proved to be the game-winner in the 1-0 shutout. He finished the season starting in all 14 matches in which he played.
Roberts, along with Zalzman, led the Tigers with two goals this season including the game-tying goal with nine seconds remaining to force the Temple match into overtime. His first collegiate goal game in the win at Cincinnati. Roberts started in all 15 matches in which he played.
