Elmore’s Career-High Leads Memphis In Setback to IUPUI Wednesday
Nov 29, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Brea Elmore scored a career-high 25 points for her second-straight 20+-point performance
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A third quarter surge by IUPUI pushed the Jaguars past the University of Memphis women's basketball team Wednesday night by a score of 80-57. Memphis falls to 1-7 on the year and will continue its home stand Sunday against Illinois, a team it defeated on the road last season.
How It Happened
IUPUI hit a pair of early free throws as well as its first three baskets to take a 10-2 lead over the Tigers. Memphis continued to battle in the first quarter, cutting the Jaguar lead down to as little as six on an Alyssa Dean jumper with 1:27 on the clock.
Despite holding IUPUI to fewer points in the second quarter, Memphis saw its deficit grow to 17 by the end of the first half.
The Tigers continued to battle for the remainder of the contest and ultimately outscored IUPUI 16-9 in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by Brea Elmore with 6:42 left in the game proved to be her 25th point of the contest, which matched her previous career-high.
Turning Point
Memphis saw itself down early as IUPUI as the Jaguars opened the game on a 10-2 run. The Tigers cut the Jaguar lead to as little as six in the first quarter but a strong third quarter by IUPUI put the game out of reach of Memphis.

I thought Brea got really brave later in the game to put up some shots. I thought she was (aggressive) in the second half. We have to find a balance between being aggressive and turning the ball over as a team.
Next Up For The Tigers
The Tigers remain at home for a game Sunday afternoon against Big 10 foe Illinois. Tipoff against the Fighting Illini is set for 2 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
