Davis Registers First Career Double-Double in Loss to SIU

The freshman led Memphis with 15 points and 10 rebounds
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Freshman forward Alana Davis put up 15 points and 10 rebounds as the University of Memphis women's basketball team fell Sunday afternoon to Southern Illinois by a score of 68-56. The setback puts the Tigers at 1-3 on the year with the Play4Kay Showdown coming up on Memphis' schedule next week.

How It Happened
After the Tigers saw Southern Illinois take a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest, Memphis rallied to take the lead on four points each from Brea Elmore and Breigha Wilder-Cochran. Neither team saw a lead grow to any more than seven throughout the remainder of the first half.

A 6-0 run in the closing minutes of the second quarter capped by a Taylor Barnes three-pointer put the Tigers up 28-21 with 1:38 on the clock. Memphis went into the locker rooms with a three-point, 28-25 lead.

Southern Illinois broke out an 8-0 run at the start of the third quarter to regain the lead from the Tigers. Down three with 6:17 left in the third, Davis hit back-to-back lay-ups to give Memphis its final lead of the contest.

The final four minutes of the third saw Southern Illinois build a lead as many as 10 over Memphis. An Elmore three-pointer as time expired in the third cut the Saluki lead to seven. Southern Illinois went on to outscore Memphis 19-14 in the final 10 minutes of action en route to its second-straight win over the Tigers.

A Southern Illinois three-pointer with 3:40 left in the third ignited the Saluki offense into an 11-6 run to close out the quarter. The Salukis continued to build on their lead by outscoring the Tigers 19-14 in the fourth.
