Austin Hall Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Will now appear on Academic All-American ballot.
MEMPHIS – Sophomore Austin Hall has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and will now appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot it was announced, Thursday. Hall, who is a junior in the classroom, carries a 3.45 GPA in Criminal Justice and is the Tigers' leading tackler with 66 total tackles.
Named the Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week once this season and an American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week once, Hall is tied for the team lead with two fumble recoveries, while his three interceptions is second on the team. The Collierville, Tenn., native has played in 20 career games, including nine straight starts after missing the last two games of last season due to injury.
Against #25 Navy, Hall finished with 10 tackles, then a career-high, and added one fumble recovery and two interceptions. Two weeks later, Hall finished with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery in the end zone in a win over Tulane.
This is the third straight season that Memphis has had an academic all-district honoree. In 2015, Charles Harris earned academic all-district honors. Last year, Jake Elliott and Daniel Montiel were named Academic All-Americans after making the all-district team, just the second time in school history that Memphis had two honorees on the academic squad in the same season.
Hall and his Memphis teammates are preparing for an American Athletic Conference West Division showdown on Saturday when SMU and its high-flying offense visit Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. That game will feature two of the top 10 scoring offenses in the country. Memphis currently ranks sixth in the NCAA with 42.3 ppg and SMU is ninth with 39.6 ppg.
