Memphis adds Leonarda Janko and Hannah Davies for next season.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team added a pair of international players for the 2018-19 season it was announced by head coach Hayden Perez, Wednesday. Leonarda Janko joins Memphis from Zagreb, Croatia, while Hannah Davies comes to the Tigers from Bristol, England.
"Adding Leonarda to this year's recruiting class is something we are very proud to announce," Perez said. "Leonarda is one of about 5 top Croatian junior girls choosing to play college tennis and we are very happy she chose Memphis. She was a singles semi-finalist in the Junior Croatian National Championships this year and won the Junior Doubles National Championship."
Janko also won the doubles title at the National Women's Indoor Championships and was a singles semi-finalist. She was also a doubles finalist at the Women's National Outdoor
"Leonarda is a very steady player that brings some international experience as well as a passion to improve to our program," Perez said. "We can't wait to see her on campus next fall."
Janko will be joined by Davies in the fall of 2018.
"We are extremely excited to add Hannah to the 2018 roster. Hannah comes to us with a great all-around game and is a big hitter," Perez said. "We are looking forward to working with her and helping grow her game with the Tiger Family. I would like to thank Ryan Haymond for his efforts with Hannah and I know he shares my excitement to have her on board".
Hannah holds an Under 16 National Title and was also a member of the 16 and Under National School Championship Team.
"Hannah visited several schools before choosing Memphis and we are confident she made a great choice for not only her degree, but for the development of her tennis game," Perez said.
The women's tennis team will lose two seniors following this season. Anki Wind has already completed her undergraduate degree and is working her way back from a second knee injury. Hanna Sohn will also wrap up her Memphis career after this season.
The Tiger coaching staff will also add one more signee for the 2018-19 season.
Memphis gets its 2018 spring dual season underway on Friday, January 19th with a home doubleheader against UAB (10 am) and UT Martin (7 pm) at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
