MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Nicholas Jones, a catcher from Providence Catholic High School in Illinois, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Memphis baseball squad for the 2019 season, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced.
"Nick possesses tremendous bat speed and will provide much needed power to future Tiger lineups. Our entire coaching staff is excited with Nick's potential to change a game with one swing, especially when it can come from the catching position," Schoenrock said.
A member of back-to-back Illinois State Championship teams, Jones batted .412 with four home runs and 21 RBI last season. Jones was named all-conference despite missing several games with a broken hand. In his career he has batted .403 with 11 homers, 80 RBI and 53 walks. Also plays at defensive tackle on the football team and won a powerlifting meet. Jones is a member of the National Honor Society.
Jones is the son of Scott and Treva Jones.
