Zitting, Sandwell Run At NCAA South Region Championships

Race wraps up the 2017 Tigers cross country season.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Memphis senior Arnica Zitting and sophomore Paige Sandwell ran in the 2017 NCAA South Region Championships Friday. The women's race was a 6k run.
Zitting placed 73rd in a time of 21:33.00, and Sandwell finished 107th in a time of 22:03.4.

Tigers Tidbits
- Friday's NCAA South Region Championships was the second time this season Arnica Zitting and Paige Sandwell ran at Alabama's Harry Pritchett Running Course. In mid-October, the Memphis cross country squads ran in the Crimson Classic. Zitting and Sandwell were 35th (21:34.6) and 65th (22:02.0), respectively, in the women's 6k.
- Sandwell ran the second-best 6k time of her career Friday. Her 22:03.4 was just 1.4 seconds behind her career-best time of 22:02.0, which she set on the same course at the Crimson Classic in October.
- Friday's NCAA race was the second of Sandwell's career. She ran a 23:13.6 and placed 171st at the 2016 NCAA South Region Championships in Tallahassee, Fla.
- Zitting ran in her fourth career NCAA regional race and the second in her time at Memphis Friday. Last season, she placed 79th (22:04.0) in the NCAA South Region Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. Prior to Memphis, Zitting ran in consecutive NCAA South Central Region Championships as a member of the Arkansas State squad. Her top regional time was 21:11.6 as a freshman in 2014, and her best regional finish was 55th as a sophomore in 2015.
- Zitting's 21:33.0 time Friday was her second-best 6k time of 2017. Her best 6k time of the season was 21:31.3 at the Crimson Classic in October.
