Lady Tigers finish fourth at final fall event.
MEMPHIS – Junior women's golfer Sydney Colwill shot a 73 on Wednesday at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational to claim a one-stroke victory over Ole Miss' Katy Harris. Colwill's 211 (69-69-73) gave her individual medalist honors and made her the third Lady Tiger this fall to grab a tournament title. Michaela Fletcher won the Payne Stewart Memorial and Abby Herrmann tied for first at the Magnolia Invitational earlier this fall. Last fall, Madison Thomas won the Memphis Invitational.
Colwill birdied three to move to one over on her second-to-last hole, and that one stroke ended up being the advantage she needed to grab her first collegiate title.
As a team, Memphis finished fourth behind Ole Miss (861), Grand Canyon (864) and defending champion Sacramento State (875).
Teammates Emily Goldenstein and Madison Thomas tied for 25th overall in the event. Goldenstein fired a 72 to jump 17 spots from her original starting spot. The senior started her day out with birdies on the first two holes, then birdied 18 to head to the front side to finish her shotgun start round. Three straight holes pushed her back to even, where she finished for the day.
Thomas also grabbed a pair of early birdies and was -2 at the turn, but likewise, hit a series of tough-playing holes to finish her day at 75 (+3).
Michaela Fletcher finished tied for 35th at the event. Following a 74-78 for her first two rounds on Tuesday, she fired a 75, Wednesday, to finish at 227. Abby Herrmann rounded out the Memphis entrants with a 78 on Wednesday to finish tied for 43rd at 230.
Memphis will now finish the fall semester and will begin off-season preparations for the spring season. The Lady Tigers will open the spring slate at the Moon Golf Invitational, hosted by Louisville, in Melbourne, Florida, at Duran Golf Club, Feb. 19-20.
