Three Tigers Earn AAC Weekly Recognition

Brantley Bice is the AAC Rookie of the Week; Jake Leeker and Alec Velez named to Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis men's soccer players Brantley Bice, Jake Leeker, and Alec Velez have all been recognized by the American Athletic Conference this week after their performances in the 2-1 victory on the road over UConn Saturday evening.
Bice was coined the conference's Rookie of the Week while Leeker and Velez were named to the Weekly Honor Roll. It was the first time this season all three players were honored by the conference and it was the most recognitions in a single week this season for Memphis.
In the 87th minute, Bice scored the game-winning goal to put Memphis up 2-1. Bice's goal came a little over 20 minutes after Alec Velez tied up the contest with a goal in the 63rd minute. It was Bice's second and Velez's first goal scored this season.
Leeker put in all 110 minutes in goal for Memphis and after going down 1-0 in the first 10 minutes, the redshirt senior goalkeeper from St. Louis held strong and registered seven saves en route to victory.
Memphis now celebrates Senior Day this Saturday in the regular season finale against Tulsa. Kickoff at the Billy J. Murphy Track and Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m. CT. Senior Day recognitions will occur before the match.
