Volleyball Falls In Four Sets At USF

Bierria posts double-double, Marlatt ties career-high in kills.
TAMPA, Fla. – University of Memphis sophomore Tai Bierria registered a double-double performance with 14 kills and 15 digs, but USF came away with the 3-1 American Athletic Conference victory over the Tigers Friday. The Bulls won the match by scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-21.
With the setback, the Tigers fell to 8-15 overall and 1-10 in the American Athletic Conference. USF improved to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in the league.

- Tai Bierria logged her eighth double-double (kills-digs) of 2017. She had 14 kills and 15 digs vs. USF Friday.
- Bierria's double-double was her fifth in the Tigers' last nine matches. It also was her second double-double vs. the Bulls this season. She had 10 kills and 10 digs vs. USF Oct. 1.
- Sarah Marlatt tied a career-high with nine kills vs. USF. She had nine kills vs. Green Bay earlier this season.
- Alyssa Kronberg collected double-digit digs vs. USF Friday for the first time since Sept. 24. She had 16 digs vs. the Bulls. It was her 14th double-figures digs match of the season.
- Kate Hoerdemann had her second-straight double-figures digs match Friday. After posting 13 digs vs. Cincinnati Oct. 22, she had 11 vs. USF. It was her sixth double-digit digs match of 2017.
- Brianna Kadiku's seven total blocks were one shy of tying her season-best. She had a season-high eight blocks vs. Cincinnati Oct. 22. It was her 10th match of 2017 in which she had five or more blocks.
- Freshman Hannah Flowers returned to action Friday after missing the previous five matches due to an illness. She had two kills and three total blocks vs. the Bulls.

- The match had only three ties and two lead changes.
- Set One (USF 25-18)
- Memphis ran out to a quick 2-0 lead on consecutive USF errors.
- The Bulls, though, responded with a 9-1 run to take the lead for good.
- The Tigers answered back with five-straight points to pull to within one at 9-8.
- Sarah Marlatt had two kills in the run.
- USF then used an 8-2 spurt to extend its lead back to seven at 17-10.
- Memphis pulled to within four on two occasions at 21-17 and 22-18 – the last on a Daija Lowe kill – but got no closer.
- The Bulls scored the last three points for the opening-set victory.

- Memphis roared out to a 7-1 lead and never trailed.
