Head coach Dan Hermsmeier comments
"Akron is a good team this year. They have a lot of good shooters. I know Saturday's match will be a test for us. We had a team meeting earlier this week to regroup after a rough start to the season. We're going to work hard in practice, and give it our best Saturday.
Â
"Both freshmen are doing really well right now. Adriana led our team in air rifle last home match (vs. Army). Matt's also shooting some really good scores in both smallbore and air rifle. Seeing these newcomers improve I hope will push the rest of the team."

Tigers Tidbits
- The three-match homestand the Tigers wrap up Saturday is the longest in over 10 seasons. Memphis was scheduled to host three-straight home matches last season (2016-17), but had to move its match against Kentucky to Oxford, Miss., while the team was moving into its new on-campus facility last January.
- This is the first time Memphis faces Akron in a head-to-head match-up. The previous six meetings came at invitationals, opens and conference championships.
- Akron is one of the newest faces in the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC). The Zips joined the GARC in 2013-14. Previously, Akron was in the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference.
- The Tigers and Zips have "split" their previous six meetings. Memphis placed higher at the 2015 GARC Championships, 2015 NCAA Championships Rehearsal and 2016 Tiger Open. Akron bested the Tigers at the 2014 Zippy Open and 2016 and 2017 GARC Championships.
- Memphis is No. 18 in the first Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. Akron is No. 14.
