Ferguson Makes Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Cut
Oct 12, 2017 | Football
MEMPHIS – Senior quarterback Riley Ferguson made the The Golden Arm Award cut as the list for the award for the top quarterback in the country was cut from 47 to 20 Wednesday. The Golden Arm Award is presented at the end of each season to the top college quarterback. Candidates must be a college senior or a four-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class.
In 18 career games, Ferguson has gone 396-for-639 for 5,233 yards and 48 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. He currently ranks fourth in career passing at Memphis just five games in to his second season and his 48 career touchdown passes ranks third in Tiger history. With his third of seven touchdown passes in the win at UConn last week, Ferguson passed Martin Hankins' mark of 43 touchdown passes to take over third on the career list.
Heading in to a Saturday matchup against #24/25 ranked Navy, Ferguson leads the American Athletic Conference with 307.0 passing yards per game. His 16 touchdown passes also leads the league.
Also a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy (for having a GPA of 3.2 or higher), Ferguson has twice this year been named the American's Offensive Player of the Week and was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week earlier this season after a win over then-No. 25 ranked UCLA.
Ferguson is also on the watch lists for the Davey O'Brien Trophy and the Manning Trophy, as well as the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm list.
Memphis continues its American Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. (CT) when nationally-ranked Navy comes to town for a West Division clash. Tickets for that game are still on sale and can be purchased at www.GoTigersGo.com/FootballTickets.
