Women’s Tennis Starting ITA Regional Action Thursday

MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team will step on to the court against regional foes when the ITA Ohio Valley Regional gets underway at Middle Tennessee, Thursday.
Hanna Sohn is a seeded player in the draw and will start her run at 10:30 a.m. against East Tennessee's Yi Chi Ma in the main singles draw. Teammate Laura Bente will also compete in the main singles draw, facing Louisville's Abbie Phaz at 10 a.m.
Josephine Cao will also face a Louisville opponent in the opening round, facing Tiffany Huber at 11 a.m. in the first round.
In the afternoon, Lina Hohnold will lead off the Memphis competitors at 12:30 pm when she faces Xavier's Sophia Abelson. The winner of that match will face number five seeded Emily Fanning of Kentucky in the second round.
Claire Sullivan will step on the court at 2 p.m. and will face Lipscomb's Madeline Brooks in the first round and 30 minutes later, Katherine Cao will start her match against Wright State's Luisa Pelayo.
In doubles, Hohnold and Josephine Cao will open the morning against the seeded team of Ito and Malinen of Western Kentucky in the main draw. Teammates Sohn and Bente are a seeded team of their own and received a walkover due to injury in the opening round of doubles. They will await the winner of the Riley/Pelayo (Wright State) vs Miceli/Coutino (Cincinnati) match in the second round.
Katherine Cao and Claire Sullivan will round out the Memphis doubles entries and will face the UT Chattanooga team of Patton and Hall at 8:30, Thursday morning.
