Women’s Golf Tied For Third at Magnolia Invitational

Herrmann tied for sixth following opening round.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's golf team is tied for third at +3 (291) at the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club following one round, Sunday. Sophomore Abby Herrmann and junior Madison Thomas are in the top 15 in the individual standings through the opening day.
Herrmann carded a 70 (-2) and is tied for sixth through her first round, while Thomas carded an even par 72 to rank tied for ninth. Herrmann opened her day with a birdie one, but was +1 at the turn following bogeys on five and six. On the backside, Hermann was bogey-free and birdied 10, 15 and 18 to finish the day at -2.
Thomas hit the turn at +2 after bogeys on one and seven, but grabbed birdies on 10, 12 and 15 to offset a bogey on 13 to finish the day at even par.
Michaela Fletcher is tied for 21st with an opening day 74, while Sydney Colwill is a stroke back and tied for 25th. Emily Goldenstein wrapped up the team scoring with a 78 on day one.
Freshman Julia Matzat is competing in the field as an individual and her first round 76 has her tied for 35th overall heading in to the second round.
Ole Miss, one of the tournament co-hosts, leads the field with a day one 278. Tennessee is second at 287, just four strokes ahead of Memphis and Auburn, who are tied for third.
Tennessee's Anna Newell leads the overall field after an opening round 67 (-5). LSU's Kathleen Gallagher and Ole Miss' Julia Johnson are tied for second at -4. The Ole Miss tandem of Conner Beth Ball and Kie Purdom round out the top five in the individual race.
Memphis will be paired with Ole Miss and Tennessee in second round times on Monday morning. Tee times off one will begin at 9:20 a.m. when Emily Goldenstein starts off the team competitors.
Julia Matzat will be paired with players from Troy and Mississippi State and will tee off of 10 at 9 a.m.
