Wind Opens Season in National Singles Rankings
Jan 09, 2017 | Women's Tennis
Becomes first Lady Tiger since 2012 to be ranked in first period of the spring dual season.
MEMPHIS – Women's tennis player Anki Wind will open her spring dual season in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national singles rankings at number 91. She is the first Lady Tiger since 2012 to start the dual season in the national organization's singles rankings. Stefanie Mikesz (51) and Courtney Collins (60) were each ranked in the 2012 first ranking period.
Wind is returning to the Memphis lineup after missing most of last spring with a knee injury. This fall, she went 11-3 in singles play, including a win over number 36 ranked Bea Machada Santo of Missouri in her first match of the fall.
"Anki beginning the year ranked number 91 is a reflection of her dedication to the rehabilition of her injury last summer and putting an emphasis on doing the little things well during her fall matches," Head Coach Hayden Perez said. "The sky is the limit for her and we are proud of this accomplishment. The coaching staff is looking forward to having everyone back on campus in a couple of weeks and getting back to work on the courts!"
The women's team will open the 2017 spring dual season with a pair of home matches against regional foes. UAB will come to Memphis for a Jan. 20th match at 9 a.m., followed by a Jan. 22nd match against Chattanooga on Jan. 22nd, also at 9 a.m.
Admission for all home matches, played at The Racquet Club of Memphis, is free.
