Tigers Fall To Tulsa On The Road

Creighton, Bajic, and Williams finish in double-figures for Memphis
TULSA, Okla. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team dropped its first road conference game of the season to Tulsa by a score of 57-52 Wednesday evening. The Tigers drop to 7-8 on the year and 0-2 to start the American Athletic Conference schedule.

How It Happened
The Tigers jumped out to a fast start over the Golden Hurricane by Brea Elmore hitting the game opening three-pointer and Taylor Williams backing that up with a lay-up on the next possession. Through the remainder of the first quarter, Memphis was able to keep Tulsa no closer than five points.

Halfway through the second quarter, Tulsa used a 7-0 run to takeover the lead for the first time in the contest at 20-19. Williams made a free throw before the end of the quarter to send the teams into the intermission tied at 20-20.

The momentum from the second quarter continued its way into the second half for Tulsa as the Golden Hurricane built up as much as a nine-point lead with 4:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.

A jumper by Milena Bajic with 4:28 on the clock sparked a Tiger run that cut the Tulsa lead to two with 14 seconds remaining in the game, capped by a Williams three-pointer.

Made free throws at the end of the game for Tulsa pushed the Golden Hurricane to a five-point advantage, as Memphis was unable to convert on its offensive end.

Turning Point
The 7-0 run in the second quarter by Tulsa pushed the momentum in favor of the Golden Hurricane. A three-pointer by Alexis Gaulden with 6:49 to play in the third broke the final tie in the game.

- Milena Bajic scored a season-high 10 points for the Tigers while pulling down seven rebounds.
- Bajic also recorded two blocks, which was a career-high.
- Cheyenne Creighton and Taylor Williams also scored in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
- Memphis finished with 22 points bench points, which tied the season-high. Taylor Barnes had seven, Loysha Morris had five and Bajic had 10 points.
- The Tigers held Tulsa to 36.4 percent shooting from the floor and 28.6 from beyond the arc. For the year, Tulsa shoots over 35 percent from three.Â
- Memphis was outrebounded by one, 39-38.
