Tigers Rifle Second In Home Tri-Match

Program hosts first on-campus match in over 20 years.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Levi Clark and Leighton Dempster posted the team's top smallbore and air rifle scores, respectively, in helping lead the Tigers to a second-place finish in a home tri-match with Nebraska and Jacksonville State.
The match was Memphis' first at its new on-campus home, the Memphis Rifle Facility in South Hall. It also was the Tigers' first on-campus match in over 20 years.
The Tigers, ranked No. 11 in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll, finished second in the tri-match with an aggregate score of 4650 (2303-2347). The 4650 aggregate score was the team's best performance since Nov. 20.
Memphis placed second to No. 8 Nebraska, which narrowly edged the Tigers with a 4656 aggregate score. Jacksonville State, ranked No. 14 in the nation, was third at 4628. The Tigers won smallbore with a 2303 score and were second in air rifle (2347).
Five Tigers placed in the top-10 in aggregate score, the most of the three squads in the match. Clark, senior Amy Fister and junior Haylea Broughton were fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Clark and Fister both posted 1161 aggregates, and Broughton had a 1160 score. Dempster was eighth (1159) and freshman Amberlie Ezell 10th (1157).
Clark recorded the match's third-best smallbore score at 578, followed by Fister in fifth with a 576. Senior Jack Berhorst was sixth in the discipline (576).
Dempster was the Tigers' top shooter in air rifle, placing fourth with a 589. Her 589 score tied her second-best mark of the season. Broughton had Memphis' second-highest air rifle result at 588 (6th), and Ezell was third-best in the discipline (8th; 587). Ezell's 587 was two points shy of her season-best 589, which she set two weeks ago in a match versus Kentucky.
The Tigers return to action Feb. 11 when they host No. 13 Ole Miss at the Memphis Rifle Facility.
