Tigers Track And Field With 16 Top-Three Finishes Saturday

Vaughn nearly ties school record in men's shot put.
JONESBORO, Ark. – University of Memphis' Brock Ballard, LaForrest Church, Davon DeMoss and Jordan Wesner all posted first-place performances to highlight the Tigers' track and field Saturday action at the 2017 A-State Invitational. Ballard won the men's 800m, Church the men's mile, DeMoss the men's 55m and Wesner the men's high jump.
On the women's side, five performers had second-place finishes. The Tigers men's and women's squad combined for 16 top-three finishes Saturday.
The A-State Invitational was a team non-scoring meet.

A-State Invitational/Day Two Highlights
- Junior Luke Vaughn placed third in the men's shot put with an indoor personal-best throw of 59-2.25 (18.04m). His toss fell just .75 inches shy of the indoor school record in the event (59-3). The indoor shot put record is held by Kevin Robinson, the Tigers head coach. Robinson set the program mark in 1998.
- Davon DeMoss ran a personal-best 6.30 in winning the men's 55m.
- In his first career appearance in the men's mile, junior LaForrest Church placed first in a time of 4:18.69.
- Sophomore Olushola Olojo, the 2016 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships runner-up in the triple jump, placed second in the event Saturday. He leaped an indoor personal-best of 50-1.25 (15.27m), breaking the 50-foot distance for the first time in his college career.
- Junior Chelsea Ladd ran in her first distance event of the 2016-17 indoor campaign Saturday, placing second in the women's 3000m. She posted an indoor personal-best time of 10:07.43 in the event.
- Junior Jada Parker recorded her highest career finish in the women's pole vault Saturday, placing second with a 13-1.75 mark (4.01m). Her height tied her career-best mark. Parker's previous best finish in the pole vault was third at the 2016 Redhawks Invitational.
- Sophomore Ashley Pryke improved her throw in the women's shot put for a third-straight meet. Her 44-3.5 (13.50m) throw Saturday was nearly a foot better than last week's mark and over three feet better than her first shot put of the season Dec. 3.
- Senior Chardae Greenlee had her second top-three finish in the women's triple jump this season. She was second at the A-State Invitational Saturday.
