Women's Basketball To Host Houston On American Digital Network

The Tigers welcome Houston for the first and only meeting against the Cougars during the regular season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team returns home this week for a pair of games on Wednesday and Saturday. The Tigers first host Houston Wednesday evening in a 7 p.m. game broadcasted on the American Digital Network. This is the first and only meeting during the regular season between Memphis and Houston.  Â

Memphis and Houston have been on each other's schedules since the 1997 season when the two squads were playing in the Conference USA. Since the Tigers and the Cougars moved to the American Athletic Conference the 2013-14 season, this will be the first year where the two teams will play just once. Memphis holds an 18-13 overall advantage over the Cougars and overall have won six out of the last seven games. Â

Breigha Wilder-Cochran joined the double-double club this past weekend with 11 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against Temple. In all, the Tigers have had six double-doubles this season with Cheyenne Creighton owning the other five. Wilder-Cochran has started in all 16 games she has played in.

Creighton continues to lead the Tigers offensively and in rebounding with 14.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Along with Creighton and Elmore (13.6 ppg), Taylor Williams is averaging in double-figures with 11.5 points per game.

The Tigers are coached by Melissa McFerrin who is in her ninth season at the helm of the Memphis program. McFerrin is now just five wins shy of 200 in her career and five away from 150 total wins at Memphis.

A Look At Houston
Houston, under the direction of Ronald Hughey, has an 8-11 overall record and 1-5 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Cougars are coming off of five-straight losses to Cincinnati on the road, UCF at home, Tulane on the road, and Temple and SMU at home.Â

Houston does have a win over Big 10 opponent Rutgers this season. The Cougars won at home by a score of 53-51 over Rutgers.

Freshman Jasmyne Harris leads the team in scoring with 10.6 points per game. Harris, however, has not started in any games for Houston and is averaging 24.7 minutes per game. Harris is a two-time American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the Cougars. Angela Harris (no relation) has also earned the Rookie of the Week honor once.

Hughey is in his third season as the head coach of the Cougars. Houston is his first head coaching stop. The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in AAC Preseason Poll.
