Steen is making her second appearance on the LPGA Tour.
MEMPHIS – Former University of Memphis women's golfer Marissa Steen will step to the tee at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic, Thursday, beginning her second stint as a member of the LPGA tour. Steen won her tour card back after finishing in the top 10 in the Symetra Tour last season and is a full member of the LPGA for the 2017 season.
Steen, a 2012 graduate of the University of Memphis, is the first Lady Tiger to earn her LPGA Tour card. At Memphis, she was a two-time C-USA all-conference honoree and was the C-USA Championship tournament runner-up in 2011. A five-time C-USA Golfer of the week, she was a three-time C-USA All-Academic honoree and was a four-time NGCA All-American Scholar. She graduated with Memphis' single-season scoring record (73.97 strokes/round) and won six individual medalist honors in her collegiate career, including three tournaments in her junior year.
She went and played in 13 events on the Symetra Tour following her college graduation, making nine cuts, posting two top-10 finishes and one top five. The following season, she played in 15 events, making 13 cuts and posting three top-10s. She had a breakout year on the Symetra Tour in 2014. She made the cuts in 13 of 16 events, posting 10 top-10 finishes with three victories. The three wins on the Symetra Tour earned her a "battlefield promotion" to the LPGA tour for the end of the 2014 season and helped her earn Symetra Tour Player of the Year honors and her first LPGA Tour Card.
In 2015, Steen played in three LPGA events, making the cut in all three tournaments, before a rib injury cost the bulk of her first LPGA season. She took time off to recover from her injury and work on her swing, returning to the Symetra Tour in 2016 and finishing eighth on the money list with $72,496 in winnings with nine top 10s and earning back her 2017 LPGA tour card.
She will open her 2017 season at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic that begins Thursday in Paradise Island, Bahamas. That event will have television coverage on all four days on the Golf Channel. Thursday and Friday, coverage will air from 10:30-1:30 pm (CT), and on Saturday and Sunday, the event will air on the Golf Channel from 2:00-4:00 pm (CT). Hyo Joo Kim is the defending tournament champion.

Steen isn't the lone former Lady Tiger continuing in professional golf. Stacey Tate (2004-08) has spent the past season on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf tour and the LET Access Tour, splitting her year between her native New Zealand and France to compete on the two tours, while Alex Alang (2010-13) is also competing on the LET Access Tour in Europe.
