Squad returns to action this weekend.
MURRAY, Ky. – Despite a setback in its first match of 2017 last Sunday, the University of Memphis rifle squad dropped only one spot in this week's Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. The Tigers hold down the No. 11 position after starting the 2017 calendar year at No. 10.
The squad is still in the process of moving to its new on-campus home, the Memphis Rifle Facility. The new range is located in South Hall.
In 2016-17, the Tigers have a 13-9 record against opponents ranked in the CRCA poll. Included among those 13 victories are road wins at No. 12 Army and No. 16 Navy in mid-October and wins over No. 15 Akron and No. 13 Ole Miss.
In addition, Memphis has a 5-3 mark against Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foes, including road wins at Army and Navy. The other three GARC wins were over Ole Miss twice and Akron.
TCU is in the No. 1 spot for a second-straight week in 2017. West Virginia is No. 2, followed by Murray State at No. 3, Air Force at No. 4 and Kentucky at No. 5.
All nine Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) programs are in the poll with West Virginia at No. 2, followed by No. 5 Kentucky, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 9 N.C. State, No. 11 Memphis, No. 12 Army, No. 13 Ole Miss, No. 15 Akron and No. 16 Navy.
Memphis returns to action Saturday, Jan. 21 when it travels to Murray, Ky., to shoot in the annual Withrow Invitational.
