Jake Elliott Named Second Team All-American for Senior CLASS Award
Jan 13, 2017 | Football
Tiger adds another honor to storied Memphis career.
MEMPHIS – Senior place-kicker Jake Elliott added one more award to his list of accomplishments, earning a second team All-America nod from the Senior CLASS Award. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I football and is selected by Division I FBS football coaches, national football media and fans.  To be nominated, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, community, character and competition.

Elliott recently wrapped his Memphis playing career as the football team's all-time leading scorer with 445 points. The first player in American Athletic Conference history to be named a first-team all-conference honoree in four straight seasons, Elliott leaves Memphis as the program's all-time leader in Points Kicking (445), Most PAT Made (202), Most Field Goals Made (82) and is the program's leader with six of the seven longest field goals in Memphis history, including a career-best 56 yard field goal in the Miami Beach Bowl win that sent the game to the second overtime session. He was a perfect 202-for-202 in point after attempts in his Tiger career and on kick-offs, he helped Memphis rank second in the country in kickoff return defense, allowing just 16.04 yards per return in 13 games. Elliott's 64 kickoff touchbacks in 2016 was second only to Virginia Tech's 73 in FBS Football in 2016.

A Lou Groza finalist in 2015, Elliott was also the two-time American Athletic Conference
Special Teams Player of the Year and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American first team honoree. He was named the league's special team's player of the week a record nine times over his four-year career, including once in 2016.

Elliott is on track to graduate in May and is currently training for the Jan. 28th Senior Bowl, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Elliott is the first Tiger in 11 seasons to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Steelers' running back DeAngelo Williams and New England Patriots place-kicker Stephen Gostkowski were the last two Tigers to earn an invite to the Senior Bowl.
