Senior helped lead squad to last weekend's Tiger Invitational crown.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis volleyball senior Michaella Moss has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It is Moss' first conference weekly recognition for her career.
Moss' honor comes after her position switch for last weekend's tournament. Moss made the move from outside hitter to libero, a position she played for the first time in her career during the Tiger Invitational Sept. 2-3.
The change proved beneficial for Memphis in winning the Tiger Invitational. Moss helped lead the Tigers to victories over Jackson State 3-0, Eastern Illinois 3-0 and Louisiana Tech 3-1 to claim the championship. With the three wins, Memphis' record stands at 4-2.
Moss was named to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament Team after she collected 58 digs in the three matches. She posted 19 digs versus Jackson State, 21 against Eastern Illinois and 18 versus Louisiana Tech. The 21 digs in the win over Eastern Illinois were a season high.
The 58 digs over the three matches were Moss' most since she piled up 59 digs in three-straight matches as a freshman in 2013 (Oct. 15-20, 2013). The 21 digs against Eastern Illinois were Moss' most for a single match since she had 27 digs versus Tennessee State Oct. 15, 2013.
Memphis returns to action this weekend when it takes to the road for the first time in the 2016 season. The Tigers travel to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the Auburn Invitational Sept. 9-10. Memphis plays two matches Friday, Sept. 9 against host Auburn at 12 p.m. (CT) and Jacksonville at 5 p.m. (CT). The Tigers wrap up play Saturday, Sept. 10 against Miami, Ohio at 11 a.m. (CT).
