Women’s Tennis Wins Five on Day One at Samford

Tigers go 3-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's tennis team went unbeaten in doubles and won three of four singles matches on the opening day of play at the Samford Round Robin, Friday.
In doubles, the team of Anki Wind and Josephine Cao prevailed in a 7-5 match against Southern Miss' Claudia Castella and Tzu-Hui Chen while teammates Katherine Cao and Clara Kuehn defeated USM's Tjasa Jerse and Elena Roca, 6-4.
Wind remains unbeaten in singles in her return from injury with a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles over Roca. Josephine Cao also added a straight set win in her match at Flight 2, downing Jerse, 6-3, 6-2. Katherine Cao also grabbed a quick win in singles, downing Samford's Grace Jennings, 6-1, 6-2. Samford did grab one singles match back though, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Kuehn in Flight 5 singles.
The second day of the competition continues Saturday.
