Men’s Tennis Wins Five of Six on Day One at MTSU

Two other Tigers start their ITA All-American runs tomorrow.
MEMPHIS -- The Memphis men's tennis team went 5-1 on the opening day of the Coach Dick LaLance 4-Man Showcase at Middle Tennessee, Friday.
Memphis split its doubles matches to begin the morning, with the team of Shakeel Manji and Jan Pallares Monreal downing the team of Alejandro Manzanares and Daniel Cardenas, 8-6. In the other doubles match against Lipscomb foes, the team of Turner Voges and Matt Story dropped and 8-5 decision to the team of Thais Minet and George Wong.
On the singles side, Memphis went 4-0. Pallares upended Manzanares, a junior, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Manji added a 6-3, 6-4 win against Cardenas while Story grabbed a straight set 6-1, 6-3 victory. Voges completed the sweep in singles, winning 6-4, 7-6.
The tournament will continue Saturday as the Tigers will face opponents from host Middle Tennessee on day two. The doubles matches will begin at 10 a.m.
Two other Tigers will start their tournament in Tulsa at the ITA Saint Francis All-American Championship prequalifying singles draw. Sophomore Felix Rauch is a seeded player in the draw and will face Richmond's Alexandre Felisa at 9:30 a.m. at the Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa.
Teammate Chris Patzanovsky will also begin play at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, facing Georgia State's Sebastian Acuna at Union High School. The complete 256 player draw is available online HERE.
