Dedric Lawson Earns Pair of Accolades From College Sports Madness

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis sophomore Dedric Lawson has earned a pair of accolades from the website College Sports Madness.
The 2015-16 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year was named a preseason Fourth Team All-American, in addition to the preseason American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
Lawson averaged a team-best 15.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last season, while blocking 55 shots and adding 39 steals. He finished in the top two on the team in four categories (points, rebounds, blocked shots, and steals), and finished third on the team with 84 assists.
He recorded a Memphis freshman record-tying 17 double doubles during the year, which also ranked 19th in the country. He finished in the top-100 in the NCAA in five other categories including total rebounds (39th), rebounds per game (42nd), offensive rebounds per game (49th), blocked shots per game (55th), and total blocks (76th).
For his efforts he was named to the CollegeInsider.com Kyle Macy Freshman All-America team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District, to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, American Conference Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-American Athletic Conference, and set an American Athletic Conference record by being named Conference Rookie of the Week six times.
Dedric Lawson was joined by brother K.J. Lawson on the preseason All-American Athletic Conference team, as he earned Third Team honors.
The Tigers open their 2016-17 season on November 7 with an exhibition game against Christian Brothers University, and open the regular season a week later on November 14 against UTRGV at 7 p.m. at FedExForum.
