Tigers Four Strokes from Lead in Memphis Intercollegiate

CORDOVA, Tenn. - The Memphis Tiger men's golf team carded rounds of 304 and 300, and the 604 stands third in the field at the 2016 Memphis Intercollegiate, and are four strokes away from defending its 2015 title.
Central Arkansas leads the field with a two-round 600, while Lipscomb is a stroke behind at 601.Â
The first round saw a strong breeze throughout, as the temperature was over 20 degrees lower than during Sunday's practice round.
Leading the way for the Tigers was JC Campbell and Kevin Lee. The pair each shot a 149 (+5) on the round, Campbell from a 76 and a 73, while Lee shot a more consistent 75 and 74. The pair are tied for eighth in the field.Â
Freshman Nick Giles carded an opening-round 78, and followed it with a 74 for a first-day total of 152, tied for 16th overall.
Sydney Chung is tied for 22nd after the first day with round scores of 75 and 79, as his 154 has him 10 strokes over par. Camden Backel was the team's throw-away score in the two rounds, as he carded rounds of 85 and 79, and is tied for 70th in the field.
Three Memphis individuals: Chase Harris, Colin Dubnik, and Eithel McGowen each are tied for 22nd in the field. Harris carded a first-round 75 and was followed by a 79, while Dubnik and McGowen each shot a 76 and 78 for their 154's. Taylor McCullum is tied for 37th with a 155 (77 and 78), as Mikko Kauniskangas is 73rd with a 166 (84 and 82) and Peyton Dix tied for 74th (91-76-167).
