MEMPHIS, Tenn. –Vice President and General Manager of CW30 and Local 24 in Memphis Joe Denk has announced that the station will broadcast three University of Memphis men's basketball games on free, local, over-the-air television on CW30 in Memphis and on Fox 16 in Jackson, Tennessee.
"CW30 and Local 24 are committed to distinct and unique local programming opportunities," says Denk. "We believe that Memphis Tigers coaches shows and this attractive early-season series of basketball game broadcasts perfectly fits our commitment to serving the interests of local viewers."
"We are excited to announce this special three-game TV partnership," said athletic director Tom Bowen. "Memphis basketball is approaching a period of enormous growth and success and this local package will enhance the exposure for the Tiger basketball brand."
CW30 will broadcast the regular-season opener and the Memphis regular season debut of new head coach Tubby Smith against UTRGV on November 14 at 7 p.m., the November 30 game against Jackson State at 8 p.m., and the December 13 game against Monmouth at 8 p.m.
The Tigers return six players who started at least one game from last season, while adding legendary head coach Tubby Smith. Smith has led five different schools to the NCAA Tournament, tied with Oklahoma's Lon Kruger with the most by a single coach.
