Fahling Named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week

Carlos Hurtado was named to the American's Weekly Honor Roll
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Â Freshman forward Burke Fahling has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his play against SIU-Edwardsville and Houston Baptist. Carlos Hurtado also earned recognition from the conference after being put on the Weekly Honor Roll list.

The Tigers came away with two victories this past week, one against SIUE Wednesday evening and one Sunday night against Houston Baptist. Against the Huskies on Sunday, Fahling scored his first career goal at Memphis in to put the Tigers up 1-0. His goal proved to be the game-winning goal as Memphis went on to finish with its fourth shutout of the season.

Fahling registered three shots this week and two of them were on goal. With a pair of starts, Fahling has played a key role in Memphis rolling to a perfect 4-0 at home this season. The 4-0 start is the best start at home since the 1994 season.

Carlos Hurtado's goal in the 57th minute against Houston Baptist:
Hurtado tallied three points against Houston Baptist with a goal scored and an assist on Julio Vargas' goal. Hurtado now leads the team with two assists alongside Remington Pimm and his goal against Houston Baptist was his first of the season.

A defender by trade, Hurtado launched three shots this week for the Tigers. All three of those shots were on goal. Hurtado has also played in every game this season.

The Tigers are back in action this next weekend with the first American Athletic Conference game against Cincinnati. Kick-off at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Sept. 24 is slated for 7 p.m. Admission for all soccer events is free and the match can be viewed on the Memphis Tiger Network.Â
